Tags

You can create tags and associate them with catalogue records. Tags that you create may be seen, used and adopted by all Arena users, but they belong to your Arena account, and only you may manage them. If you add a tag that exists already, you will adopt the existing tag. See Tag cloud to read about how the tag feature works in Arena.

How to add tags to catalogue records

1. If you have not logged in to Arena, do so now.
2. Search for an item to which you would like to add a tag.
3. Click the item's title. The item's detail page will open.
4. Locate the Tag panel.
5. Type the new tag name, and then click Add a tag to create the tag.

When adding a tag, note the following:

• The tag applies automatically to all media types thereof. For example, if you add a tag to a paperback edition of a novel, it will also be added to the hardback edition of the novel, to the audio book of the novel, and so on.
• If the tag exists already, its size depends on how many other people are using (that is, linked to) that tag.
• Short tag names are generally more useful than long tag names. They are easier to remember and to type, and work better in tag clouds.
• A tag name should be meaningful to all Arena users - not just you. Do not use foul language in tag names. For advice on acceptable tag names see Community guidelines.

How to delete a tag from a catalogue record

You may delete any tag, as long as no other Arena user has adopted it.

1. If you have not logged in to Arena, do so now.
2. Search for the item from which you would like to remove a tag.
3. Click the item's title. The item's detail page will open.
4. Locate the Tag panel.
5. All tags associated with the item will be displayed in a tag cloud in the Tag panel. Click the minus to remove a tag.

How to adopt and unadopt tags created by others

You may adopt or unadopt tags created by other Arena users.

A plus next to a tag means that it has been added by another user and you may adopt it to your My tags panel. A minus next to a tag means that this tag is in your My tags panel and you may unadopt it from there.

1. Search for an item.
2. Click the item's title. The item's detail page will open.
3. Locate the Tag panel. If tags exist already, they will be displayed there.
4. Each tag has a plus or a minus next to it. Click plus to adopt a tag and add it to your My tags panel, or click minus to unadopt a tag and remove it from your My tags panel.

How to view your tags

1. If you have not logged in to Arena, do so now.
2. Click My Pages in the menu and there click My stuff. Or click My stuff in the Login panel.
3. On the My stuff page, find the My tags section.

How to delete a tag from your tags

You may delete any tag from your tag cloud. You may want to do this if you no longer need to refer to it. For example, you may have needed a tag for a project that you have now completed. This does not delete the tag; it just deletes it from your tag cloud.

1. If you have not logged in to Arena, do so now.
2. View your tags (see How to view your tags above).
3. Click on the tag you want to delete. The titles tagged with that tag are listed.
4. Click next to the tag for the title/titles in the list to delete it.
